Theodor Kittelsen (1857-1914) was a Norwegian painter and illustrator known for his depictions of fairy tales, folklore, and mythology. He is particularly renowned for his illustrations of the works of the Norwegian playwright Henrik Ibsen and the writer Jonas Lie. Kittelsen's work often featured trolls, goblins, and other mythical creatures, and he is considered a significant figure in Norwegian romantic nationalism.
